Local leaders praised Gov. Scott Walker's Wednesday decision naming Chief Deputy Scott Parks as the new Marathon County sheriff.

Parks will be sworn in Thursday and replaces former Sheriff Randy Hoenisch, who resigned March 20 amid intense scrutiny after failing to report to work regularly for months.Hoenisch had held the position since 2000. Parks, who was selected from among 21 applicants for the position, will serve out the remainder of the sheriff's term until Jan. 5, 2015.
