A proposed state rule that would eliminate municipalities' ability to require its employees to live within the city limits has some local leaders hot and bothered.

The leaders of local cities and villages say the proposal would be a slap in the face to local control and could become a potential safety concern. The proposal is included in the state biennial budget and would allow municipal employees to live within a few miles of the town, village or city in which they work, but be penalized if they do.
