Marathon County's new sheriff intends to tackle problems at the jail head-on while taking steps immediately to restore public faith in a department that has faced intense scrutiny over the past several months.

Former Chief Deputy Scott Parks was sworn in at noon Thursday as Marathon County sheriff at a ceremony held at the Marathon County Courthouse. Gov. Scott Walker appointed Parks to the position to fill the vacancy created when former Sheriff Randy Hoenisch stepped down March 20.
