Carpenters get 'Grand' tribute

If you know all the words to "Rainy Days and Mondays" and get misty-eyed every time you hear "Close to You," then you won't want to miss a musical tribute to The Carpenters, coming to The Grand tonight.

Executive Director Jim O'Connell said the Yesterday Once More performance features four vocalists to match the sounds of Richard and Karen Carpenter.

"The goal is to recreate the sound of the Carpenters, not to pretend to BE Karen and Richard. Since so many of their songs were dubbed in the studio (Karen harmonizing with herself), it takes more than two singers to get the sound right," O'Connell said.

The music is performed with a piece-band; piano, percussion, bass and guitar.

Show time is 7:30 p.m.

Next up, tickets are still available for funnyman Bill Cosby on May 20 and the musical "West Side Story" on May 23.
