LAWRENCE - A car hit a utility pole on U.S. 41 in Lawrence, closing the highway in both directions for nearly 2 hours Friday afternoon.

Officials closed the northbound lanes of the highway at County U and southbound lanes at County S because of low-hanging power lines. Power crews were on the scene.

Radio traffic also indicated French Road was closed due to the incident, which was cleared around 3:45 p.m.
