Sunday is Mother's Day, so be sure to stop in, send a card, make a phone call or say a prayer for your mom and tell her you love her and appreciate her on this very special day.

If you are a mother, it is a good time to reflect on all those memories that you cherish. Take the day to enjoy your children, grandchildren, and family. Congratulations to all new moms! We hope you all have a very happy Mother's Day.

New counter tops

The new counter tops for the Lakeside Park Shelters have been installed and will be ready for Maifest over the Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to the local civic groups for providing the necessary funding to buy the new counter tops.

These groups include the Jacksonport Women's Club, Jacksonport Area Business Association, Jacksonport Firefighters Association, Jacksonport Historical Society, Jacksonport Polar Bear Club and the Jacksonport Advancement Corp.

Special thanks to Darrel Birnschein for building and installing the countertops and to Randy Halstead for building a special cart for transporting the counter tops to and from the storage area.

The new counter tops will last a long time and be of good use and service to both residents and visitors alike as they attend various park festivals, activities, and events.

JAC meeting

The next meeting of the Jacksonport Advancement Corp. is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the town hall. Final Maifest plans will be discussed.

The 41st annual Maifest, May 25-26, will include the old and the new. Visitors can enjoy the new excitement of helicopter rides taking off on Saturday and Sunday and thrill at the power of the well-trained animals at the horse pull on Sunday. There will be the first corn roast of the season and the 30th annual 10K/2-mile run to work off the brats and the funnel cakes.

Come to Lakeside Park during Memorial Day weekend and have some family fun. Volunteers are always needed and interested persons can sign up at Bley's Grocery. More information will be in next week's column.

Local lore

Join the Jacksonport Historical Society at 7 p.m. May 22. Whether you are new to the area or a long time resident, we welcome you to share the history of our community through your memories and photos. Maybe it's a family wedding, farm life, cherry picking or smelting fish.

These stories and pictures will be documented and added to the society's photo collection. Your participation will help the history of Jacksonport be preserved. Come one, and come all to share your memories and photos.

Refreshments will be served after the program. Admission is free, but a donation is greatly appreciated. See you there! P.S. Don't forget to stop by the JHS booth at the Erskine Root Cellar.

Retirement dinner

All are welcome to attend a retirement dinner for Sevastopol Schools staff set for 6 p.m. May 22 at the Mill Supper Club. Cost is $18.50 per person.

This year, we honor retirees Carolyn Bauer, Chris Brauer and Joe Majeski and years of service recognition to Lisa Bley, Mike McHugh and Carol Nick. For reservations, call the district office at (920) 743-6282, Ext. 101.

New baby

Pat and Bob Schutt, Jacksonport, are the proud paternal grandparents of Maya Annalise who was born on April 29 to their son Guy and his wife, Stephanie. The new family resides in Milwaukee. Congratulations to all!
