ABATE of Wisconsin calls itself a motorcycle rights and safety organization.

It is a powerful, politically connected group that devotes considerable effort to increasing motorcycle safety, including rider training. But at the same time, it works to oppose what other safety advocates say is a key, life-saving measure: making it mandatory that adults wear a helmet.

Wisconsin hasn't required adult motorcyclists to wear a helmet in decades, thanks in large part to ABATE's robust lobby. ...
