For 78 years, Planned Parenthood has been providing high-quality health care services for up to 80,000 women and families. Today, one in five women relies on Planned Parenthood as an affordable health care source, as well as a community resource and an advocate.
The Shawano health center served as one of these resources, helping families and women for the last 34 years by providing much needed, affordable preventive care including STI tests, birth control, cancer screens, wellness exams, and more.
However, recently, Planned Parenthood was forced to shut down its Shawano health center as a direct result of cuts in the last state budget, and is one of four rural health centers around Wisconsin that are affected by these budget cuts. I believe it is vitally important that women, men, and families who support Planned Parenthood stand together to protect access to quality, affordable health care, because without these resources, many women and families within our communities will have less access to the care they need for their greater health and well-being.
