One killed in fiery Fond du Lac County crash

TOWN OF BYRON — A 52-year-old Fond du Lac man was killed early this morning when an Express Van struck a bridge support at Highway 41 and County Trunk F.

The man's name is being withheld pending notification of family and confirmation of identity by dental records, according to a release by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation at this time.

The 2008 Chevrolet van was westbound on County F at 1:30 a.m. when the driver struck the bridge at Highway 41, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office report.

The van started on fire at impact and was destroyed by the fire. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was killed.

Officers are working to identify the owner of the vehicle and the driver, according to the report.

The northbound shoulder of Highway 41 is closed until a detailed inspection of the bridge support is completed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
