The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac will hold its annual spring Honors and Commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac.
This year's Commencement speaker is Ray Cross, chancellor of UW Colleges and UW-Extension.
Cross has led these two institutions since 2011. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, he was president of Morrisville State College, a residential agriculture and technology college of the State University of New York (SUNY).
In addition to his career in academia, Cross has experience in the private sector as a design engineer, small business owner and consultant to business, industry and government. He served with the U.S. Army and was awarded four medals for his service in Vietnam.
Victoria Vegter of Fond du Lac has been selected as the student speaker. Vegter was home-schooled through high school and her passion is music. She will be transferring to UW-Oshkosh in the fall to major in music composition. Vegter is also an avid photographer and is building her business, BlueLens Photography. She has done photography work for various events at UW-Fond du Lac including the recent Corks and Forks fund-raiser. Her sister, Olivia, is a freshman at UW-Fond du Lac and the two performed several original musical compositions during Corks and Forks.
A reception for graduates and their families will be held in the University Center Commons following the ceremony.
