May 14, 1942 - City unable to get well pump: While acknowledging that the Green Bay Water Department's request for a priority to put in pumping equipment and a reservoir at the new Seventh street well "is one of the most ably presented" cases received, the War Production board politely informed the water commission in a recent reply that the project cannot be approved.

Drilled and put in condition a couple months ago, the well is of no use without a pump and the WPB edict means that there will be no chance of tapping this new source of supply for the duration of the war. As a result the $30,000 spent by the department in drilling and laying 5,000 feet of 10-inch cast iron pipe to "tie in" the well with the general distribution system will also be a worthless expenditure until the war is over.
