Jordan is one of the finest individuals at Pulaski High School. When I think of Jordan, words like problem solver, creator, passionate and empowering come to mind. Jordan is seen as a leader in the classroom as well as in co-curriculars, athletics and in the community. He carries these qualities with him in all aspects of life as he currently has a 4.161 GPA, has volunteered over a hundred hours and has been appointed a team captain for basketball.

Student essay: Who do you emulate and why?
Vincent Thomas Lombardi coached his final football game two decades before I was born, yet the legend of Lombardi as a great coach, and even greater man, lives within me. Each time I drive down Lombardi Avenue or enter magnificent Lambeau Field, I take a moment to appreciate Lombardi’s greatness. His powerful words about courage, determination, teamwork and passion have been woven into my heart as I strive to commit myself to excellence in every endeavor in my life.
“People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society.” — Coach Lombardi
As a member and leader of school groups and teams, I strive to posses the “heart power” that Lombardi looked for in his players. Whether it is a commitment to my basketball team as captain or to my classmates as senior class president, I know success is attained only through the combined efforts of each individual. I was not born as a leader, but I have stretched my abilities by attending the Washington, D.C., Leadership Conference and Point Guard College, a basketball player leadership summer camp. These experiences gave me the opportunity to explore leadership philosophies of great men, like Lombardi, and to immerse myself in leadership activities and teamwork. Regardless of the situation, the selflessness of teamwork propels everyone to excel. Together we can accomplish more than any single individual effort.
Coach Lombardi said he “viewed his players as neither black nor white, but Packers green.”
Lombardi had no tolerance for discrimination and racism. I commit myself to creating a positive culture of understanding by embracing diversity. It is my hope to be victorious in making the world a better place. This past summer I participated in an immersion trip to Costa Rica and volunteered in an orphanage for sexually assaulted girls and their babies. This experience reinforced my faith in God and served as a reminder that I am here to serve all people. Every human being should be treated with respect and kindness at all times.
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” — Coach Lombardi
I do not settle for anything less than my very best whether on the basketball court, in the classroom or as a son and brother. Coach Lombardi reminds me to be patient and forgiving in my pursuit of excellence and to respond to adversity with courage and strength.
“The good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything. It’s your mind you have to convince.” —Coach Lombardi.
Through his words and actions, Lombardi has had a profound influence on my life; I value teamwork, appreciate diversity and strive for perfection. Most of all, his wisdom has encouraged me to believe in myself and have the courage to do what is right. I look forward to making a difference in our world and someday I hope to be an inspiration to others as Coach Lombardi has inspired me.
