A Republican-backed bill to spur poor people to use more of their Food Share benefits on healthy food has proven to be more complicated - and more controversial - than it might seem on the surface.

Under Assembly Bill 110, two-thirds of a monthly food stamp allotment would have to be spent on a list of healthy foods. ...
