Merrill School Board takes steps toward positive working relationship

Members of the Merrill School Board say fresh efforts to make it a more cohesive and functional working group are gaining traction.

But the group has met only a few times since the April 2 election brought three new members to the nine-person board, and so far, the group hasn't tackled any major issues that hit emotional hot buttons, such as declining enrollment, finances and expansion of technology in the classrooms, two of the members say.

"I just don't even have an opinion yet," said Jeff Verdoorn, who was elected in the April election, then chosen in a split vote to be the School Board ...
