The University of Wisconsin Marathon County Foundation will present the Sixth Annual Spirit of Excellence Award to Professor Emerita Linda Ware during a special awards program at 11:30 a.m. Thursday on the stage at the UW Center for Civic Engagement. Ware taught English for 40 years at UWMC, and has led major initiatives to help the campus.

The Spirit of Excellence Award is presented to an individual who has been a strong supporter of UWMC students and faculty over a long time. Among some of Ware's accomplishments include: her leadership in the campaign to furnish the UW Center for Civic Engagement; her mark as a founding board member for the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service; and her work as a member of the UWMC Foundation board.

"Linda Ware has been a tireless supporter of our campus," said Keith Montgomery, UWMC dean. "We are delighted that she is being recognized with this important honor."

More than 70 people are expected to attend the awards program, which will feature a keynote address by Jon Greendeer, president of the Ho-Chunk Nation and a UWMC alumnus.

More information about Ware and the award can be found at www.GreatStartsWithU.org.
