May 16, 1950 - Sheriff salary coming to vote: The Brown County League of Women Voters' campaign to have the sheriff placed on a salary was due for another airing during the county board May session which opened this morning.

Supervisor John Duffy of the town of Holland said this morning he would introduce a resolution changing the sheriff to a straight salary and eliminating the present fee system, target of the League of Women Voters for several years. The board defeated a similar proposal in March, 29-18.

Duffy indicated the resolution would be brought in this afternoon. Several supervisors said they would support the proposal just as they did previously and there were signs that some others were wavering in their opposition to the change.

Under state law any change in the salary set-up must be made before May 26, first date for circulating nomination papers for county offices for terms starting next Jan. 1.
