A finalist to become Green Bay's next fire chief has withdrawn as a candidate.

Randy Karrer, a fire chief in suburban Tucson, Ariz., said he decided to stay at his current department to help deal with some new internal issues.

That leaves four remaining finalists: Interim Fire Chief Mike Nieft; Michael Romas, an assistant fire chief in Milwaukee; David Litton, a former fire chief in Bolingbrook, Ill.; and Sidney Johnson, assistant fire chief in Jackson, Miss.

The Police and Fire Commission has not disclosed a timetable for making a decision.
