A memorial service honoring fallen law enforcement officers was held Wednesday at the Public Safety Memorial in Hamilton Park.

Fond du Lac Police Department Officers Craig Birkholz, Nick Klaske and William Prinslow died in the line of duty and were recognized on National Peace Officers Memorial Day held each May 15 after a proclamation by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

Birkholz was shot and killed on March 20, 2011 while responding to a call for assistance after a fellow officer was wounded during a domestic disturbance.

Klaske was chasing a burglary suspect when he was shot. He died on Oct. 31, 1961.

Prinslow was shot while on duty and died on Nov. 19, 1898.
