Late-blooming amaryllis was planted on New Year's Day

If it was a marathon, there wouldn't even be anybody left standing at the finish line to clap.

A pity, because it has taken nothing short of a Herculean effort for my amaryllis to get there.

Most "normal'' amaryllis already bloomed in January (when they're supposed to) and have long since been beheaded, their bulbs secretly in training beneath the potting soil for next season's show. ...
