Cheap, junk food is not the only reason for a doubling of obesity in Wisconsin but it doesn't help reduce the devastating economic toll of overweight children and adults statewide.

That's the perspective of Dale Schoeller, a Nutritional Sciences professor at the University of Wisconsin and a board member of Wisconsin Prevention of Obesity and Diabetes.

Schoeller said Friday in a phone interview that healthier food can be more expensive and take time for preparation compared to a quick, junk food snack or meal away from home. ...
