Letters to the editor: Welcoming attitude, signs important to Event City success

What makes Oshkosh Event City?

It's more than just events. The welcoming attitude of everyone is critical and part of that is signage.

Ever tried navigating a city that saves money by only putting up the cross street names while they assume you know the name of the street you are on? Or where six lanes meet six lanes and they put one sign post up? It's always kitty-corner across from where I am.

Compare UW-Oshkosh and Fox Valley Technical College with Lawrence University, Ripon College or any other Wisconsin college by looking for building names and directional signposts. We expect businesses to be welcoming because they are looking for, well business, but when traveling, do you find a gas station attendant who knows how to get around the city they live in?

I've been stunned in small towns by people who make it from home to work and don't know where the nearest highways are.

In Oshkosh you can count on all businesses being happy to skillfully direct you. Ease of movement is part of a warm welcome. It takes an entire village to extend this sincere greeting. Thank you to the schools, Parks Department, Street Department, business community and all others who help make this Event City!
