HARRISON -- A 49-year-old Rhinelander man was killed in an all-terrain vehicle crash that happened just after 6 p.m. on an ATV trail in the town of Harrison.

The man was traveling east on the trail when he lost control and hit a tree. He was taken to Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill where he was pronounced dead, according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.

The man was wearing a helmet, according to the news release, but it was not properly secured. Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, but an investigation is ongoing. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, the news release said. The man's name will be released on Monday, officials say.
