LETTER: Theft of neighborhood memorial is disappointing

What a wonderful little street I live on. The neighbors are friendly and watch out for one another like family. The city has given us permission to plant flowers and shrubs in the "court" of our cul-de-sac and in return we mow the grass and take care of it.

All have helped or contributed plants, many in memory of neighbors we have lost. When a dear, elderly, cat-loving lady died a few years ago we used memorial money to purchase a life-sized statue of a cat playing with a yarn ball. It has sat on a concrete bench for three years now - until last Saturday night.

A resident watched a car pull up and a young girl ran out, grabbed the statue, then they sped away with headlights off. He ran out, but could do nothing.

We like to believe there is good in everyone and are saddened by the loss of this memorial. It would make the whole neighborhood happy if the statue would be returned to it's spot in our little "park" where it belongs.
