May 21, 1959 - Howard Village Board annexes entire town: The young Village of Howard annexed the remaining area of its "parent" Town of Howard Wednesday night at a special meeting of the Village Board.

Joseph Holman, village attorney, this morning, explained that the annexation becomes effective immediately since there had been a 30-day period for any elector to petition for a referendum on the question after the annexation petition was received but no one did so.

Holman noted that of 412 electors in the newly annexed Howard area 373 had signed the petition. The value of real property they own represents $801,244 of the total assessed valuation of $844,309 in the annexed area, he said.

The enlarged village now is comprised of an area of 18 square miles, Holman said, apparently making it the second largest village in Wisconsin. (For comparison with the village area, the city of Green Bay now includes about 16 square miles.)
