Remarks insulted all veterans, families

This letter is in response to the statement made by Rae Ellen Smith regarding the naming of a portion of the west-side trail in memory of Sgt. Ben Edinger, U.S. Marine Corps, who died from injuries suffered in Iraq in 2004.

I was appalled at the suggestion that this dedication was inappropriate without a financial contribution. What price do you set on a young man's life? Edinger, at 24 years old, contributed the remainder of a hopefully long and happy life to the service of his country, ensuring you the opportunity to enjoy the trail at your leisure.

Perhaps Smith should visit the many veterans cemeteries to truly appreciate the sacrifices veterans have made before uttering such an insensative remark which, in my opinion, disrespected all veterans and their families.
