Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy would like to see cornerback Sam Shields participating in the organized team activities.

“I wish Sam was here,” McCarthy said Tuesday

Shields didn’t attend Tuesday’s OTA practice that was open to the media and the public at Clarke Hinkle Field.

McCarthy wouldn’t give a specific reason for Shields’ absence, but the fourth-year cornerback hasn’t signed his restricted free agent tender. So it’s possible Shields wants to come to an agreement with the Packers on a long-term contract before he takes part in practice.

The Packers extended a second-round tender to Shields in the offseason that would pay him just over $2 million this season.
