Golf: Vikings win regional, head for sectional

Pioneers' Potier, Birmingham, Clippers' Hogan also advance

Gibraltar/Washington Island won the WIAA Division 3 high school boys golf regional tournament Tuesday at Pine Hills Golf Club in Gresham and will advance to next week's sectional tournament.

Also moving on to sectionals were Sevastopol golfers Sam Potier and Bryce Birmingham, based on their individual rounds. The top four teams, plus the top four individuals who were not on one of the top four teams, moved on to the sectional tourney.

The Vikings finished with a team total of 355, beating St. Thomas Aquinas by 18 shots. Sevastopol placed fifth at 379, missing out on qualifying as a team by one ...
