Silver Lake angler Tim Schneider made history Friday by landing the first 8-plus-pound smallmouth bass in the 23-year history of the Sturgeon Bay Open. The 8.45-pounder was little more than a half-pound shy of the 63-year-old state record of 9 pounds, 1 ounce caught from Indian Lake, Oneida County in June of 1950.

Boehm, Van Laanen finish 3nd in 'Open'

Green Bay's Ted Boehm and Jesse Van Laanen weighed 62.24 pounds of smallmouths to place second in the 23rd annual Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament last weekend.

Numerous records were set, including the winning per-fish average of 5.59 pounds; top single-day weight average of 6.01 pounds; heaviest single fish at 8.45 pounds; and top average weight per angler at 4.14 pounds on the 1,606 bass brought to scale in the catch, weigh and release event. ...
