Carpets of sparkling dandelions, undeterred Creeping Charlie, and wood violets are three most troublesome lawn weeds.
Carpets of sparkling dandelions, undeterred Creeping Charlie, and wood violets are three most troublesome lawn weeds. The best recommendation to control these perennial lawn weeds is to schedule a timely application when these weeds are in their weakest point of life, which is right after all their energy is spent in blossom formation. For maximum control of these weeds, schedule a second application in fall (September) when the plants are about to prep for overwintering.
In terms of selecting the herbicide product for control, choose lawn herbicides that contain active ingredients like triclopyr, quinclorac or fluroxypr. Apply the product when the temperature is in the mid-60s to low 80s with no forecast of rain for the next 24 hours after application. Don't mow the treated area of your lawn for few days before and after application. Always read the label before you apply the product.
The best defense against these weed is to improve the turf density by topdressing the void spots or over-seed the sparse areas in your lawn, and maintain your lawn through proper management practices.
