Last June, The Lumineers headlined the Meyer Theatre as part of the Near Water Concert Series. Three weeks later, their popularity exploded.
"The Lumineers (cost) $1,500 and now they're $75,000," said Matt Goebel, the theater's general manager. "The band was peaking and we got them at the right time, and we got them at the right price."
That's part of a scratchy formula Goebel and Tim Perlewitz, who handles marketing for the Meyer, use when booking bands for the Near Water series: a little bit "How big will this band get?" a little bit "How is this band being received?" and timing. ...
