A wonderful veterans memorial is on Highway 80 in the Catholic Cemetery in Pittsville.

In 2004, Donald Hahn, a World War II veteran, planned the idea to honor service men and women who lost their lives in World War I and II, Korea, Vietnam and finally Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hahn, a staff sergeant, served in the infantry in five major battles including Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, between 1943 and 1945. He was in the 28th Infantry Division, 112th Infantry Rgiment. His unit received a citation of honor and distinction from Gen. Eisenhower. He received many medals but will not mention them ...
