Nichols: Principle above partisanship

Liberal pundit John Nichols told Door County Democrats on Thursday night that core principles are more important than loyalty to a political party.

"I'm not a big fan of parties," said Nichols, Washington correspondent and blogger for The Nation magazine as well as associate editor of The Capital Times website in Madison. He noted that his great-grandfather began as a Lincoln Republican, became a LaFollette Progressive and died a Democrat, all without changing his principles.
