Boating safety tips: Friday, May 24: Officials from the U.S. Coast Guard, Green Bay police and the company conducting Fox River dredging offer advice for a safe boating season.

Law enforcement and the people cleaning up the Fox River want boaters this season to consider the waterway a construction zone.

"When you see orange barrels on the highway, you're supposed to slow down, and we're asking approaching boaters to do the same," said Paul Olander of J.F. Brennan Co., which is dredging and capping on the river.

Olander and representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard, state Department of Natural Resources, the Brown County Sheriff's Department boat patrol and Green Bay Police Harbor Patrol held a press conference Friday to urge boater safety, especially this holiday ...
