The Hamilton Roddis Memorial Library at University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County may be one of the best kept secrets in Marshfield. Scholars from around the state and as far away as New Zealand ask for content that we have right here in Marshfield.

Since the campus is jointly owned by the city of Marshfield and Wood County, this means library resources are not only available to faculty, staff members and students but also to you as members of our community. Located just down the hallway from the Helen Connor Laird Theatre, the HRML was remodeled in 2006 to better serve the research needs of our students and faculty.

Our collection of 31,000 titles includes a wide range of items covering a variety of subjects. We have a great history collection, focusing on the World Wars and their aftermath. We have more than 2,000 musical CDs, primarily due to a sizable donation five years ago. As a result of this donation, we have the largest collection of CDs in the two-year UW Colleges.

Another growing area is plays. We have play scripts from many standard plays that have been performed on our campus by the Campus Community Players throughout the nearly five decades since the campus was built. We recently have acquired a few musical scores that soon will be added to our large music monographs. The more than 250 art books from the Bromberg Collection, donated by the Marshfield Clinic and New Visions Art Gallery, are a welcomed addition to our wonderful art collection.

Our materials constantly are circulating, not only to our students and Marshfield-area residents, but to the other 23 two-year and four-year campuses that are part of the University of Wisconsin System. We not only lend our materials to patrons, but we also borrow materials from within the UW System to help fill requests for our campus and community. This collaboration helps us stretch our dollars and maximize our efforts to fulfill our patrons' needs.

We might be a small library by some standards, but we are having an impact around the world. Please stop in and see Ruth, Laurie or Carolyn and check out our collection. We would be happy to make you a library card holder. Our summer hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Fridays.
