Panel OKs UW tuition freeze

Approves $94M cut to funding

The Legislature's budget committee approved a two-year tuition freeze for the University of Wisconsin System and cut state funding by $94 million, rather than increase it by $181 million as Gov. Scott Walker originally proposed.

The committee also moved more than $89 million to the compensation reserve fund and transferred $58 million of System funds to the Higher Education Aids Board.
