May 25, 1948 - De Pere company given contract to supply bookmobile: The contract for supplying Brown County with its first bookmobile was awarded to the Broadway garage, De Pere, at a meeting of the county bookmobile committee Monday evening.

The garage submitted the lowest of six bids with an offer to supply the vehicle for $4,270.50. It will consist of a Wayne bus body on a Chevrolet chassis.

The five rejected bids were submitted by the International Harvester company, the Northern Truck Service company, Brown County Motors, Bogda Chevrolet Motor company, and the Van Drisse Motor company.

It is hoped by the committee that the bookmobile will be ready for exhibit at the Northeastern Wisconsin fair here next August.

There is a possibility that the vehicle will cost less than $4,270.50 because the committee expects a rebate on the federal tax.
