Richard Ryman column: Cambria Suites to get Marriott makeover

Cambria Suites in Green Bay soon will be SpringHill Suites by Marriott. The nearly 6-year-old all-suites hotel is going by the Hotel Green Bay name in the interim. It has to complete certain interior and exterior changes to meet the Marriott format. Once the changes are approved, the hotel can join the Marriott family.

In the meantime, however, the hotel does not have an online reservations system. General Manager Craig Bleier said that does make things a little more difficult, but they've put on extra staff to answer phones.

"We do have quite a following now of people that actually call the hotel direct anyway," Bleier said. "We've done between 65 and 70 percent of our own reservations" since the hotel opened in 2007.

The hotel includes 127 suites, an executive board room, two meeting rooms, an indoor pool, full-service bar and breakfast buffet.

Bleier said the owners and staff remain the same, and all reservations that were made when it was with Cambria will be honored, a point of particular importance to Green Bay Packers fans.

"Hopefully, by next month we should become SpringHill suites," Bleier said.

The hotel is at 1011 Tony Canadeo Run. The telephone number is (920) 569-8500.

Dan Goben Cars expanding

Dan Goben Cars, 1592 E. Mason St., will soon double its inventory.

Goben is expanding into two properties adjacent to his dealership, which will allow him to go from 40 to 80 vehicles. He expects the larger lot to be available around July 1.

Goben focuses on late-model, lease-returned vehicles.

"I like them, and the majority just need tires and breaks and very minor cosmetic work," he said. "We handle bread and butter, everyday kind of vehicles. I really cater to that $200-a-month car buyer."

The East Mason Street and Bellevue Street corner is a good location because in addition to being accessible to East Green Bay and Bellevue, "you get a lot of people that just travel Mason Street. People from out of town who don't know their way around use Mason Street."

Goben opened his dealership in October 2011.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The telephone number is (920) 469-2277 and the website is dangobencars.com.
