This column appears Saturdays as space allows in the Life section of the Marshfield News-Herald. Agencies that need volunteers can contact the Life Desk at 715-384-3131, ext. 324, or email details to jzettler@marshfieldnewsherald.com.

St. Vincent de Paul is looking for volunteers. There is a deadline of June 15 to reside in its six-bedroom house at 310 N. St. Joseph Ave. (corner of Doege and St. Joseph). The proceeds from the sale of this house will be going to help build the new Transitional Homeless Shelter for Families with children. St. Vincent's is looking for volunteers who could help on May 30, 31 and June 1(weather permitting). If you are available any of those days, call Dennis Boucher at 715-305-5619 or email dennismarshfield@yahoo.com.

Special Olympics: Nearly 2,000 athletes are gearing up to compete in aquatics, athletics (track & field), soccer and powerlifting at the 2013 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Summer Games from June 6 to 8 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Competitions will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 7 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8. More than 300 volunteers are needed to assist with various tasks including escorting athletes, presenting awards, timing events and food services. All volunteers receive a free T-shirt. Visit SpecialOlympicsWisconsin.org or call 800-552-1324 for information.

United Way: Volunteering is part of what it means to LIVE UNITED. Marshfield Area United Way recruits people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise and resources to get things done. Each one of us has special talents, things we can do to help. It takes all of us to build a strong community. Open your heart. Give an hour. Give a Saturday. There are many volunteer opportunities available at the Marshfield Volunteer Center. Go to https://volunteer.truist.com/mavc/volunteer/
