Fans of rustic camping - no electricity, no flush toilets, no showers - now have a modern way to keep tabs on campsites in Wisconsin's largest state forest.

The state Department of Natural Resources this week released an iPhone app that campers can use to check up-to-date availability of the nearly 900 campsites in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.

The majority of the 351 campsites in the forest's four modern campgrounds - Crystal Lake, Clear Lake, Big Musky and Firefly - can be reserved, but the other 550 sites scattered across the area are mostly available on a first-come, ...
