Lower OWI limit recommendation meets opposition

The National Transportation Safety Board recommended earlier this month that states reduce blood-alcohol content limits for driving from 0.08 to 0.05, but divergent opinions regarding lowering the standard indicate a change in Wisconsin law is a long way off.

"We were one of the last states to go to 0.08," said Portage County District Attorney Louis Molepske. "We held out until it was pretty certain we'd be losing federal highway dollars."

More than 100 countries already have adopted a 0.05 standard or lower, according to the NTSB. ...
