Amid a festive weekend, time to honor the fallen

Lee Hartwig and David Burns of Sturgeon Bay VFW Post 3088 raise the flag at a Memorial Day ceremony during Maifest (Lakeside Park) in Jacksonport on Saturday.

Maifest continues beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday with 10K and 2-mile fun runs followed by activities and music throughout the afternoon.

Memorial Day ceremonies continue Sunday and Monday throughout the county; Sunday morning Southern Door veterans plan a series of ceremonies at 22 cemeteries.

A ceremony is planned at 10 a.m. Monday around the Door County Veterans Memorial outside Sturgeon Bay City Hall.
