May 26, 1960 - State lawyers name Whitney next president: Atty. John C. Whitney of Green Bay today was named as president-elect of the State Bar of Wisconsin. He will take office next year.

Whitney was elected by the 6,000-member bar association which includes all practicing attorneys in Wisconsin. The position is non-salaried. Whitney is one of the youngest men ever to be named to the position.

A year ago Whitney was one of two Wisconsin attorneys inducted as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. He served as president of the Brown County Bar Assn. in 1956-57.

A native of Green Bay, he graduated from West High School in 1932, and then entered the University of Wisconsin. Whitney returned to Green Bay in 1939 and entered the law firm of Everson, Ryan, Whitney and O'Melia. He served in the U.S. Army and Navy a total of four years.
