Jerry Pilger's connection to submarines began right after he graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1942 and continues after his death with the dedication Saturday of the Gerald R. Pilger, Sr. Memorial Quarterdeck.

The quarterdeck, which is a new patio between the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and the USS Cobia, was dedicated as part of the museum's annual USS Lagarto Remembrance Ceremony. The event also serves as a reunion for those who built and served on the 28 submarines made in Manitowoc.
