Vietnam vet saluted for distinguished service

It was March 1970 and Janet Lieb was waiting for her husband to arrive in Hawaii for his rest-and-recuperation week from active service in the Vietnam War.

Every day, she watched other officers come in and looked to see whether her husband, Charlie, was among them. Every time she went, she saw a priest and a Red Cross representative who would pull aside someone to tell them that the person they were waiting for was not coming.

So when she saw a Red Cross representative come to her door, she locked it. ...
