Food drive aims to fill the gazebo

Members of local churches are trying out a new way to collect food and money for local pantries this summer, and they're taking advantage of a relatively new local landmark to do it.

After years of declining participation in the annual Merrill Area CROP Walk for Hunger - which celebrated its 30th and final year last year - organizers of the CROP Walk decided to hold a summer food drive June 15 called Fill the Gazebo. Their goal is to, as the title indicates, fill the recently built gazebo in Normal Park with nonperishable food and personal items.
