When John Sayavong salutes the names engraved on the Lao, Hmong and American Veterans Memorial, he salutes friends.

Sayavong, 63, a T-28 pilot during the Secret War in Laos, celebrated Memorial Day with his comrades-in-arms in a ceremony Monday at the memorial in Deland Park.

Sayavong's plane was shot down near Long Tieng in 1972, permanently damaging his vision and scarring the rest of his life with trauma. ...
