Regional drive collects 65 tons of food for local pantries

Although the Food for Freedom food drive fell short of breaking the world record for most food collected in a 24-hour period, organizer Dan Loomans was pleased with the result.

"We were slower than we anticipated, but we raised a ton (65 tons to be exact) of food for people who really need it," the 17-year-old Fond du Lac High School junior said. "I told my board and supervisors before we headed out here today, that no matter what happens, if we go out there and at the end of the day say there wasn't one more thing we could have done, then we will have had a successful weekend."
