Panera Bread has begun accepting applications for its new Wausau location with just two months remaining before the much-anticipated opening of the bakery and cafe on the city's west side.

Panera is aiming to open its cafe doors by late July or early August, said Mandy Burns, a marketing manager for Panera's Illinois and Wisconsin locations. Among managers, bakers and other hourly employees, Burns said Panera expects to hire about 50 people for a mix of salaried and hourly positions. Burns declined to comment on possible pay scales.
