We asked Kim Thoma, 49, of Iola about her exercise favorites in this month’s Workout Q and A.
Question: What inspires you to exercise?
Answer: “I wanted to feel better. It was getting to the point when I started exercising that I couldn’t do daily activities anymore. I wanted to do daily activities better and feel better. My body wants to move, and when I started, it didn’t want to move at all. I’m more energized now, and able to do more things. And my house has never been cleaner.”
Q: What is your favorite exercise equipment?
A: “My favorite thing is my own body. I do a lot of full-body workouts using my own body. The reason I like that is because you have it all the time. I like weights as well and cardio machines.”
Q: What is your favorite workout song or music?
A: “I like Michael Jackson; he really gets me going. A lot of Top 40 hits get me going, too, and oldies. I like anything with a beat.”
Q: What is your favorite fitness activity that does not seem like a workout?
A: “Walking and hiking. Iola has a really nice cross-country trail, and I like going out there. I just enjoy the outdoors and the sunshine.”
Q: What are your wellness goals for 2013?
A: “I would like to be at a healthy weight, and I’m almost there, and just have a good stamina. ... And, just to be strong — physically, mentally and spiritually. Exercise and fitness is the piece I’ve been missing my whole life.”
