Effective July 1, Matthew Heywood will serve as the new president and chief executive officer for Aspirus Inc.

Heywood will replace current president and CEO Duane Erwin, who presided over a period of rapid system growth through expansion, service development and regional partnership. Erwin will retire as of June 28.

Aspirus is a nonprofit, community-directed health system based in Wausau. With more than 6,000 employees, Aspirus serves people in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan through an extensive hospital and clinic network, home health and hospice care, pharmacies, critical care, medical goods, nursing homes, a philanthropic and research foundation, and an affiliated physician network.

Dr. Clyde "Bud" Chumbley, president of Aspirus Clinics and Chief Clinical Integration Officer for Aspirus, has rejoined the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality board. The WCHQ is a multistakeholder, voluntary consortium of members from Wisconsin health systems, medical groups, hospitals and health plans. WCHQ members and stakeholders measure and report the quality and affordability of health care services in Wisconsin.

Kathy Drengler, chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, has been appointed to the Wisconsin Action Coalition's Nursing Leadership Learning Collaborative. Drengler will be involved in helping health care organizations throughout the state implement recommendations from an Institute of Medicine Report, "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health" into their nursing programs.

Aspirus Kidney Care in Wausau, Memorial Health Center Kidney Care and the Langlade Hospital Dialysis Center have completed the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program for outpatient dialysis. The program is a series of educational modules that facilities complete in order to implement patient safety principles for dialysis staff members and patients.

Kevin Auner, David Hussong and Steven Zeinemann, with Central Wisconsin Associates of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, have qualified for the Sierra level conference by providing financial guidance and solutions to members of the organization in 2012.

Auner of Weston, Hussong and Zeinemann of Wausau, are with Thrivent Financial's South Wisconsin Regional Financial Office. They were recognized at Thrivent Financial's annual conference.

Thrivent Financial and its affiliates offer a broad range of financial products and services. As a not-for-profit organization, Thrivent Financial joins with its members to create and support national outreach programs and activities that help congregations, schools, charitable organizations and individuals in need.
